What changed — the longer pool variant.
The longer 201-pool variant has joined the standard 101-pool table on most platforms. The longer format reduces variance and rewards patient play — the rules are otherwise identical. The shift is documented on the operators' help pages.

The longer variant is the same format with a higher pool ceiling. The pool ceiling is the elimination threshold — the player who reaches the ceiling first is eliminated. The higher ceiling reduces variance and rewards patient play.
Why this matters — the variance shift.
The desk's read is that the variance shift is the most meaningful change. In a 101 pool, three 30-point losses takes a reader out of the table. In a 201 pool, the same three losses are 45 points of the pool — still enough to survive, but with less room to recover.
